Ruby LaVelle (Foust) Fitzpatrick
September 9, 1939 ~ October 27, 2020 (age 81)

Ruby LaVelle (Foust) Fitzpatrick, age 81, of Abilene, Texas, (former longtime resident of Sweetwater, Texas), passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at her residence.

Per her wishes, her body will be cremated. A private burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Ruby was born on September 9, 1939 in Sweetwater, Texas to Ernest Leonard and Elois (Allen) Foust. She graduated from Hardin Simmons University with her Bachelor of Science in Education degree. She worked as a teacher for many years including Roby ISD which she taught for over 10 years, teaching third grade reading.

She married Billy Joe Novian in 1953 in Sweetwater, Texas. He passed away on August 4, 2000. She then married Ted Fitzpatrick in 1977 in Lubbock, Texas. He also preceded her in death. She was a longtime resident of Sweetwater and Roby for many years before moving to Abilene three years ago.

Ruby was an avid reader, seamstress and gardener. She loved planting and watching her flowers grow. She got enjoyment in seeing all the colors flow together to create beauty. She definitely was a people person. She never knew any strangers and would speak to everyone. She worked in the public for many years. Ruby loved teaching reading and she received great pleasure in seeing young children learn. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Truly Ruby's gift was the ability to transform something out of anything.

She is survived by her three daughters, Amelia Gail Balliew and husband Wes of Weatherford, Texas, Elizabeth Ruth Turner and husband Doc of Lubbock, Texas, and Brenda LaVelle Moore and husband Jim of Conroe, Texas; five grandchildren, Neil Balliew, Richard Balliew, Deborah Kirkpatrick, Jennifer Rojas-McWhinney and Amanda Haden; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Foust of Avinger, Texas; sister, Carol Brewer of Sweetwater, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Gene; sisters, Vernell, Louise, Geraldine and Betty Sue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels and American Cancer Society.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wes Balliew, Jim Moore, Doc Turner, Neil Balliew, Steven Haden, and Nathan Kirkpatrick.
