John W. Grimmett was the son of Jacob and Lucinda Tucker Grimmett. John W.'s first wife was Alice O. Burt. They had 9 children: Howard, Willie, Joe, Cornelia, Ethel Mae, Sallie, Siddie, Gracie, and Sam. Alice died in 1891 and John remarried to Georgia Ann Marlar Perry. Their children were Benjiman, Bobbie, Lora, Johnnie, Unie, Mary, Ruby, William, Bessie, Daisy, Henry, Earl, and Dallas.

Cause of death: Influenza. John's grandson, Thorson "Whaley" Bailey was with him when he passed away. According to Whaley, John asked his wife, Georgia, to bring him some tea. He sat up and drank it, then he gasped and left this world.
