Marion M Lesovsky, “Spunt or Spunty” (aka Grandpa Leshy) was born on December 14, 1923, the son of George & Francis (Blazek) Lesovsky and left this earth on October 8, 2020, at the age of 96.
He attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse, Silverthorne and graduated from Cuba High School in 1942. Marion continued his education through banking schools throughout his career.
Marion served as Sgt in the US Army National Guard during WWII. After returning home from the military, Marion helped on the family farm. On May 20, 1950, he went to work at The First National Bank in Belleville and retired on January 19, 1988, after 38 years of service.
On September 19, 1950, he married Bonnie M. (Wiruth) Lichtenhan and was blessed with two daughters, Raceile and Victoria.
After retiring from the bank, Marion enjoyed investing his time working for Purple Splash for 25 years where he continued to serve the public. That is what kept him young all those years and he enjoyed visiting with the customers.
He was a member of The United Presbyterian Church of Belleville, where he regularly attended, and served as Deacon, Treasurer for many years and on the Session Board. He also served as treasurer for the Cuba and Belleville Schools and continued his treasurer duties for the NCK Health Care Foundation as well as volunteered his knowledge and time as a Trustee for Estates for several people in the community.
Marion was a member of the Belleville Lodge #129 A.F. & A.M. for 72 years, William Fleming Legion Post #345, Cuba, KS for 60 years, member of the Shriners Lifetime for 70 years, a member of the Lion’s Club for 65 years (transferred from Cuba in 1967) with a “Perfect Attendance” for the 65 years, member of the Belleville Coffee Club and served on the Health Care Foundation and the Fair Amusement Board.
K-State was his number one college team and he and Bonnie attended football and basketball games for many years. Of course, he introduced that love to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marion’s support for the local schools and community was so important to him. While his grandchildren were in school, he attended most of the football and basketball games, along with track, cross-country, golf and baseball games. Not only those events but also supported school plays, the Marching Buffs, jazz band, vocal concerts but his main love was the concert band. He did his best to support them all. Socializing was what Marion loved. Those coffee gatherings (and coffee betting) at Arbuthnot Drug, Goose Crossing and the Country Club where he enjoyed seeing his friends every day, were so important to him. His best friend, even though he rooted for KU, (Dave Black), shared that cup of coffee every day and always bet on those KU vs KSU games.
Marion is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Leon, Glenn, George and Vincent, wife Bonnie and special friend Alice Wiruth.
He will be remembered and missed by his daughters: Raceile (Roger) Owen of Fort Morgan, CO, and Victoria (Melvin) Kolars of Belleville. Grandchildren: Shelley (Kevin) Kuhlman of Belleville, Lynn Owen of Commerce City, CO, Jeff (Karen) Kolars of Apollo Beach, FL, Kevin Kolars of Ulysses, KS, and Rick (Julie) Owen of Windsor, CO. Great-grandchildren: Trevor (Dani) Kuhlman of Linn, KS, Keely (Cody) Hageman of Spring Hill, KS, Kirsten Kolars (Kale Adams) of Nevada, MO, Trenton (Lucy) Kuhlman, of Belleville, Trey Kuhlman of Belleville, Presten Kolars of Harrisonville, MO, and Jackson and Harper Owen of Windsor, CO. Great-great-grandchildren: Indie Hageman, Karter Adams and Jaxxon Hageman and special friends Tyra and Lannie Hanel as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday, October 12th, 2020 at the United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, Kansas with the Reverend Robert Frasier officiating. Masonic Rites conducted by Lodge No. 129 and Military Honors provided by Ft. Riley Army Honor Guard. Family inurnment will be in the National Bohemian Cemetery, rural Cuba, Kansas.
