LT. Thurman J. Julian, US Navy (Retired) age 78 of the Boma Community passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

He was born April 25, 1942 in Boma to the late Cecil and Ova Margaret Jernigan Julian.

He was a 1960 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter. He was a member of Boma First Church of God.

He was a retired Navy veteran with 20 years of service, including multiple tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. After his retirement from the Navy, he moved back to the Boma Community and became a full time farmer of 25 years. He raised tobacco, hogs, goats and cattle.

He enjoyed hunting, beekeeping and socializing with family and friends.

Survivors include wife of 47 years (Married March 12, 1973 in Alexandria, Virginia) Nhieu Thi Tran Julian of Baxter, daughter and son-in-law Sonya and Justin Lester of Santa Monica, CA, son and daughter-in-law Anthony and Kanda Gail Julian of Baxter, sister Shirley Maynard, brother and sister-in-law Lonnie and Gloria Julian, sister-in-law Beulah Julian all of Baxter, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Katherine Joyce Baird and Helen Lois Julian, brother Herman Julian.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Baxter chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment followed with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard in Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County.
