Ida Adell McCombs Anderson was born June 14, 1879 at Smithfield, Utah. Her parents, Andrew McCombs and Amelia L. Brown, had come to Utah from the eastern part of the United states in 1855. Mr McCombs helped to pioneer Logan, Smithfield, Clarkston and Trenton, Utah.
Ida was reared in a real pioneer home. At the time of her birth the family lived at Trenton but since the community was isolated and newly settled, her mother was taken to Smithfield for better care.
In 1898 Ida McCombs came to Star Valley to stay with her sisters, Eliza Hale and Kathryn Carpenter. She would spend the summer here, then return to her home in Trenton late each fall to spend the winter. It was while she was on her visiting trips that she met and became acquainted with John N. Anderson of Grover, her future husband.
They were married February 28, 1900 in the Logan LDS Temple. The trip to the temple consumed seven days. The couple located on part of the Nielson estate at the mouth of Grover canyon and there eight children were born; Daisy (Peterson), Edna (Turner), Clarence (deceased) J. Delos, Golden, Gilbert, Pearl (Hepworth) and Arthur (deceased) She has 21 grandchildren.
The Anderson family lived there on the bench overlooking Grover over these many years until just a little over a year ago. Her husband preceded her in death only a short time.
Mrs Anderson loved home life and that is where she spent her time, sacrificing for her children. She took great pride in gardening and kept many house plants. She always helped her husband in his work. From her early youth she learned to sew, cord wool and spin yarn. A good many knit and hand-sewn articles were made for members of her family. Today many handmade quilts adorn the homes of her descendants.
Like her mother, Amelia her last year or two were spent in almost total blindness.
Relatives attending the funeral services from out of the valley included;
Mr and Mrs Ben Hale, Emmett Idaho; Mr and Mrs J. W. Nielson and daughter Gweneva, Mrs Jennie Austin and daughter Helen, Lucy Manning, Mr and Mrs Royce Anderson, Logan Utah; Mr and Mrs John Sandberg, Pocatello Idaho; Mr and Mrs Donald McCombs, Emery, Ernest and Lester McCombs, Salt Lake City; Mr and Mrs John McCombs and son, Gordon, Clifton, Idaho; and Mrs Ed A. Jensen Preston, Idaho.
