NENA CHILDS
CHICO - A private family funeral for Nena Vertabedian Childs, 69, of Chico, was held at the Hall-Van Hook Funeral Chapel Aug. 11.
Mrs. Childs died Aug. 10 in a Chico hospital.
She was born July 19, 1912 in Chico to Antranik and Berjoohy Vartabedian. She was reared and went to school in Chico. A gold medal graduate of Chico High School. She was a life member of the California Scholarship Federation. She also received a degree from Los Angeles Junior College.
After graduation, she managed two health food stores in Los Angeles. She returned to Chico in October of 1941.
During World War II, she worked at the Chico Army airfield. In 1953, she went to work for the Butte County Credit Bureau and retired in 1978.
She was a member of the Chico Chapter of the Sweet Adelines, the Enloe Hospital Auxiliary, Stansbury House Auxiliary, and the Butte County Historical Society. She was also a member of the Chico Horticulture Society.
Survivors include a brother, Vartkes Vartabedian of Chico; and a sister, Mrs. Araks V. Tolegian of Sherman Oaks.
Cremation took place at the Chico Crematory and inurnment was at the Chico Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Enloe Hospital or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
