Marjorie D. Crisler Brackin, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dedicated teacher, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, at Brookdale Assisted Living. Born on August 2, 1935, in Alabama, she was a passionate and creative soul whose love for life and family was profound.
Marjorie was the cherished matriarch of her family, survived by her three devoted daughters, Sheri "Nia" Thurber, Terri (Keith) Cowan, and Joni (Darin) Atkins. She took immense pride in her five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who will remember her fondly for her loving nature and creativity.
Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Carlton Brackin; her parents, Walter Crisler and Dottie Lee Lansdell Crisler; and her son-in-law, Michael James Thurber.
Despite the challenges of being one of nineteen siblings, Marjorie's positive and enduring spirit shone through.
Marjorie's professional life was marked by her passion for music and literature. She was a wonderful, loving piano teacher who shared her love for music with countless students over the years. Her creativity extended beyond music, as she was also an avid writer of books, drawing from her life experiences to weave engaging narratives. Her love for animals was well-known, often adopting stray cats and dogs that needed a loving home.
Marjorie was a dedicated member of the Southeastern Church of the Nazarene, where she used her musical talents to uplift the congregation and foster a sense of community. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and comfort.
An ardent fan of Alabama football, Marjorie's spirited cheers of "Roll Tide" were a staple during game season. Her enthusiasm and passion for the game brought joy to those around her and made every game a memorable occasion.
Marjorie will be remembered for her loving nature and creativity. Her love for her family was boundless, and she nurtured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the same passion she brought to her music and writing.
