DIES, RITES TODAY
J. L. Jewell, Sr., Maringouin banker, died at 8:30 a.m. yesterday at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital here.
He was widely known in banking circles in Louisiana, and had been associated with the Maringouin Bank since 1906. At the time of his death, Jewell was executive vice president and cashier.
Jewell, 67 was born in Ventress on October 27, 1867.
The body is at his home in Maringouin. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church there. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mattie Wylie Barrow; three sons, Wylie B. and Joseph L. Jewell, Jr., two daughters, Mrs. C. Hubbard and Mrs. Helen Jewell Best, all of Maringouin, and seven grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be J. Thomas Jewell, J. P. Jewell, Jr., Ruffin Jewell, D. B. Barrow, Jr., Charles W. Row, III, Sam Lorio.
