Burley Bearden dies in Ravenna. News had been received here of the death of Burley W. Bearden, 79, retired Burlington engineer, on Thursday in Ravenna. Mr. Bearden had been in failing health for the past few months. He had lived all his adult life in Alliance.
He was born March 1, 1884 at Taylorville, Illinois to William Lafayette and Nancy Jane Mason (Angleton) Bearden,
they made the long hard journey from Illinois when Burley was just a year old, his parents settling at Dorchester, Nebraska. It is at Dorchester where he grew to manhood.
He was hired out to the Burlington as a fireman here in October, 1905. He was promoted to an engineer in September, 1909 and retired on July 31, 1956.
Burley's 1st wife was Emma Ann Stude married Sep 22, 1909 Waukegan, Illinois. Emma died Oct 22, 1951 in Los Angeles County, California. His second marriage was to Sophia Matilda Mattson on Aug. 22, 1931 at Hot Springs, South Dakota, one son was born of this union (Sophia died in 1937). Burley then married Dorothy Jane Law in 1946 here in Alliance.
Survivors include a son, Burley E. Bearden Jr., of Bethesda, Md., and a step-daughter and step-son, and a brother, Hiram Benjamin Bearden of Omak, Washington. Burial will be in the Alliance cemetery.
