Virginia Berg
Virginia M. Berg, 98, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 11:47 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Ill.
Born July 9, 1909, in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of Stephen J. and Rosa M. Whalen Altmix. On Aug. 23, 1934, she married Charles Andrew Berg in Monmouth, Ill. He died Oct. 27, 1963.
Mrs. Berg worked with the Media School hot-lunch program. She was first employed as an operator at Bell Telephone in Chicago in 1927 and 1928. She then moved to Raritan, Ill., and lived with the Livermore family doing domestic work and home care until her marriage. She and her husband then moved to Stronghurst, Ill., where she began raising her family and making her home.
She was reared and educated in Quincy, where she attended St. Francis Elementary School. She is a member of the Media Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school. Earlier she also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Cook of Des Moines and Martha Tinkham of Monmouth; one son, Charles Berg of Tonka Bay, Minn.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers.
No visitation is planned. Friends may call at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth prior to the service Sunday.
The funeral for Mrs. Berg will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Turnbull Funeral Home. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Warren County Relay for Life.
