Son of Sanders W. McComas from Circleville, Jackson Co KS and first wife Laura Mary Heath born 1815 Cabell Co WV, daughter of Israel Heath and Elizabeth Blue. Sanders W McComas and Laura (Heath) McComas married 28 Jan 1834 in Cabell Co WV and moved with the rest of the family into early Platte 1839. Laura Mary Heath McComas, David's mother, died in Platte Co MO, and Sanders W McComas remarried Nancy C. (Boydston) McPike in Platte Co MO and brought the family to Jackson Co KS. David R McComas served the 5th Kansas Cavalry Co A, Union Army in the Civil War. He married 12 Apr 1865 Luticia Ann Anderson from Circleville, Jackson Co KS who was born 28 Jan 1841 near Marlboro, Stark Co OH 2 mi from town to Major George Martin Anderson and his wife Elinore Houck. Major Anderson served in the 11th Reg KS Cavalry Co B, Union. David R McComas died of tuberculosis, consumption which he got during his service in the civil war serving with the 5th Kansas Cavalry. Record says 'Distinguished Service.' (His widow Luticia (Anderson) Heath later remarried 16 Apr 1873 at the Pacific House in Kansas City, Milo B Barnes and later divorced him Dec 18, 1891.. Records indicated it was a very acrimonious marriage. She first went to live with her brother Thomas J. Anderson but after he died his widow could not support Luticia. In 1915 census for Topeka, Shawnee Co KS she is living at age 75 in household of a Maybelle Anderson age 52, no doubt an Anderson relation. She had one child with Milo B Barnes: Jessie Barnes who married Henry S. Robb and went to live in Muncie, PA.
