Anna Catherine Eastright was born in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania on January 31, 1850 to John Seigle and Mary Sarah Faushey Estrick / Eastright, but for some reason John's brother and wife, Samuel and Betsy Estright raised Anna. I lost track of Anna's mother after Anna's birth and wonder if she died during or soon after Anna's birth. Anna is listed in the PA 1860 census as Anna Estrick and living with her Uncle Sam. Anna joined Saint John's Catholic Church on February 10, 1867. She married Samuel Sylvester McConnell at Saint John's on July 18, 1867 in Altoona. Samuel was born on August 12, 1846 in St. Augustine Cambria County, Pennsylvania to John Henry and Catharine Burke McConnell. Samuel served in the Civil War as a private with Company A, 205th Pennsylvania Infantry. After the war, he went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad, as a boilermaker. He retired in 1911 after 48 years of service. Samuel and Anna were married 66 years when he died on August 5, 1933. Anna died on November 9, 1934. Both are buried at Calvary Cemetery in Altoona. Anna and Samuel had 13 children with nine living to adulthood and two babies unknown.
