DEATH RECORD; #65279.

July 18, 1900, Indiana Democrat

Samuel Eastright died at his home in Indiana July 12, 1900, aged 77 years, 10 months and 3 days, of paralysis. He had been a sufferer for six years past. In the fall of 1899, his disease took stonghold on him and he never gained more strength than enough to walk around home, and up to his daughter's house. He was a pious Christian man, and a kindhearted father. His sufferings were long and painful, but he bore them with Christian patience and fortitude. He has joined the glorious throng of saints above with, his wife, sons and daughters. In 1877, he accepted Christ as his Saviour from sin, he lived in the happy consciousness of Being forgiven, and enjoyed the fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, and peace. He quietly passed away, his last plain words were, "I'm going home." He was born in Blair County and was married to Mary J. Burkhart in 1852, and has been a resident of Indiana County for 41 years. To them ten children were born, six daughters and four sons, and four daughters and two sons survive, Mrs. John A.Smith, of 2nd Ward, Mrs. John Shank, of Apollo, Lloyd, of Apollo, Dan, of Corydon, Cecilia and Clara at home, four sisters, Mary Walton, Sue Settlymer, of Altoona, Ellen Zimmerman, of Birmingham, and nine grandchildren. He was known as a great hunter on the mountains,a fisherman, a good farmer, and was respected by all who knew him. The children and friends have our sympathy in their loss of a loving father and brother. The services were conducted by Rev. Furman on Saturday at 9 o'clock. He was laid to rest in the Dunkard graveyard at 12 o'clock.

Samuel Estrick / Eastright was born in Allegheny Township, Huntingdon County (became Blair County in 1846), Pennsylvania on October 9, 1822 (headstone states September) to A-3, John Seigle and Mary Sarah Faushey Estrick / Eastright (Faushey maybe spelled wrong, I believe it's spelled Forshey). Sam, as his family and friends called him, was born with the last name Estrick, but his father changed it to Eastright in the late 1840s. John's brothers changed the spelling to either Eastright or Estright. Sam worked on the James Irvin family farm as a laborer. He married Mary Jane Burkhart in Allegheny Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania on March 25, 1852. The service was performed by Jacob H. Stiffler Esq. Mary Jane was born in Huntingdon County, PA on October 25, 1833 to Samuel and Margaret "Peggie" Clapper Burkhart. Mary Jane shares the same grandmother, Margaret Birk Hart Burkhart, with her husband's brother's wife, Sarah Jane Hart Eastright (A-10). Mary Jane and Sarah Jane are cousins and sister-in-laws (how is that for confusion). Sam and Mary lived most of their married life in Cherry Hill, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Sam served on the Grand Jury for the month of October 1873. Mary died in Cherry Hill on February 28, 1886. Sam had a stroke on July 10, 1900 and died at his daughter Celia's home in Indiana, Indiana County, PA on July 12, 1900. Sam and Mary are buried at Dunkard United Brethren Cemetery in Penn Run, Indiana County, PA. Sam and Mary had ten children; two are unknown, one boy and one girl.
