He was a son of Alfred August and Mary Viola (McNutt) Munson. He was married to Betty Jane Fechter on December 26, 1931 in Kahokia, Missouri and divorced in June of 1950. He then married Ellen W. Bresney on Nov. 22, 1950 in Ottawa. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters: Dorothy (Ron) Atchley of Streator, Carol (David) Abbey of Streator, Karla Pollett of Normal, and Kimberly (James) Stahly of Streator; sons: Edward (Debbie) Munson Jr. of Manville and Shawn (Konya) Munson of Summit, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters: Vera Call of Washington, Ill. and Velma Laurine of Streator; and a brother: Oral Dean (Marie) Munson of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons: Ronald and Randall Munson; and brothers: Cletus and Kenneth Munson.
