When the boys reached their maturity, all three entered the military. The oldest brother, Addison Roubinge and my g grandfather George W both enlisted on the same day at Lockport, NY into Co. I NY Eighth Heavy Artillery. Addison was captured during the battle of Reams Station, Va, and was eventually taken to Rebel prison at Salisbury, NC, where he died April 25, 1864. My g grandfather, George W, made it through the war and mustered out May 16. 1865 at Baltimore, Md. The youngest of the three boys, Charles Bacon Terry, was the first to enlist, going to Kansas and enlisting in the Kansas Volunteer Cavalry. After the war, he became a professional soldier, serving for over twenty years with Company D, 12th regiment of the United States Infantry in various parts of the country. He died at the age of 43 from injuries in an accident, and is buried in Madison Military Cemetery near Watertown, NY.
The black and white photo of his grave was taken by my mother Marion Terry Schaibly, who wrote our Terry Family History back in 1968, and which continues to reveal new details about our Terry ancestors as Father Time determines.
