G. Conway Grant, 93, of Boise, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 in a local care center of natural causes.
Conway was born June 12, 1920, to Horace James Grant and Leila Afton Moss in Brigham City, Utah. He grew up in Bountiful, Utah and attended and graduated from Davis High School. Following high school, he worked at Holbrook Mortuary in Bountiful, Utah, until he was called to serve an LDS Mission in the Northern States Mission. While serving on his mission he sang in the Mormon Male Quartet and performed in county fairs and on the radio. He met his sweetheart of 70 years, Phyllis Bowman, while serving in Detroit and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1943.
Conway graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He became a licensed funeral director and mortician. He owned White Chapel Funeral Home in Salt Lake City, and the Hall-Grant Mortuary in Pocatello, Idaho. In 1967, he moved to Boise and began working at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, where he became a partner in the business in 1982 until his retirement in 1990.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in numerous callings throughout his life including Bishop of the Boise 10th Ward.
Conway was loved by all those who knew him for his kindness, sense of humor, and service to others. Many people were the recipients of his great compassion and love.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phyllis, of Boise; daughter Gaye (Golden) Welch of Henderson, NV; son, Glen (Marva) Grant of Meridian; son, Todd (Vicki) Grant of Wasilla, AK; and daughter, Holley (Dorn) Rademacher of Boise. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; and a brother, J Dell (Beverly) Lee of Farmington, UT.
A special thanks to Lisa Easterday, Besima, Allie, and the rest of the staff at Spring Creek Assisted Living Center Overland in Boise, as well as Align Hospice for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Rose Hill Ward LDS Chapel, located at 3200 Cassia St., Boise. A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, August 23rd, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will follow in the Dry Creek Cemetery.
