John was born by midwife, at home on June 16, 1929 in Columbus, NE to John and Ethel Eva (Warnick) Boswell. He grew up in Columbus, attended school and lived his entire life in the area.

John was a quiet, soft spoken man. He was honest and good to everyone he knew. John loved his community. During Mayor Barney Micek’s campaign’s, at election headquarters John would serve the coffee throughout Barney’s term. John loved spending time visiting and socializing with friends and family. John never learned to drive but he did bicycle and would ride to Duncan, Plate Center and Schuyler. On occasion to visit with extended family in Independence, KS John and father John Sr. would hop a box car and hitch a ride. John attended Bethphage (Mosaic) learning new skills and socializing with friends. When asked he loved to speak about stories from his youth relating he was once sent to pick something out of the freezer at the Adam’s Café and was locked inside until someone found him.
