Bates (Tourgee) Betty Ann, 66, of Post Rd, a retired lunch aid, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of Albert J Bates III for thirty six years.
Born in Coventry, a daughter of the late George E and Christe B (Northup) Tourgee, she had lived in Warwick since 1971.
Mrs. Bates had been employeed with the Warwick School System for several years until her retirement.
She was an avid gardener, a good woman, a loving mother, grandmother and wife and loved cockatiel birds.
Besides her husband she is servived by two sons, Micheal A St Jean of Coventry and Douglas P St Jean of Warwick; two daughters Valerie J Hebert of Warwick and Michelle St Jean of Coventry; a brother Richard Tourgee of Coventry; a sister Anna E Tourgee of Coventry; and six grandchildren Melissa St Jean, Jacob Hebert, Michaela and Zachary Harris, John Troutman and Emma St Jean. She was the sister of the late Niles F Tourgee. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave, Rt5, Greenwood, Warwick (exit 12A on I-95)
Burial will follow in Knotty Oak Cemetery, Coventry. Relitives and friends are invited and may call Friday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 222 Richmond St. Providence, R.I. 02903 would be appreciated.
