Husband of Laura Jane [Sharp] Letcher. They married about 1869, as their 1st child was born Apr 1870. He was the son of Stephen Tolbert & Chloe Adams [Norris] Letcher. Stephen and Laura had 10 known children.

There children were:

Gantry Baker, Mittie Irene, Laura
Elizabeth, Gertrude A, Trannie Letcher.

Stephen acquired 160 acres of land via the Texas preemption law, after living on it for 3 years he became the original owener of the land, it appears he and his brother Henry arrived about 1871 or early 1872, in Bowie Co, as that is their first appearance on the Tax Records.

His 160 acres became known the the S B Letcher Headright. He maintained this property from 1874, to 1899, and possibly until hia death.

Brother Henry, and James F T, and sisters, Louvenia & Paralle, also made Bowie County Texas their home.

Stephen served in the Civil War with 2 other of his brothers, and a brother-in-law: Thomas Giles, and John Jackson Letcher, they survived the war, but with injuries. Originally, they were all in same unit, Co A, 20th AL Infantry Regiment. His sister Luvenia's hushand, James P Shaver, also served in the same unit.
