1937 - 2020
Lyman Dee Jessop's first move was on October 1, 1937. He surrendered his King in checkmate on March 19, 2020. Lyman Dee was born to Joseph Lyman and Maleta Porter Jessop in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lived the wonderful life of a poor kid in a huge family in Utah. His love of learning led him to become a graduate of the University of Utah in 1960, and so became a lifelong Ute. In 1969, he moved to Montana and became the principal of Pines Academy and served in that capacity for 50 years until retirement. He earned his master's degree in education from the University of Montana in 1986, and officially became a Grizzly. He taught hundreds of students and influenced thousands. He dedicated his life to service. He dearly loved his family, games of chess, fishing in the Big Hole, telling campfire stories, keeping his own stats at basketball games, watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports, and serving the community of Pinesdale, Montana. He was 82.
