Funeral Services For
Mrs. Lon H. Johnson
Held at San Gabriel

Funeral services for Mrs. Lon H. Johnson, who died Monday, June 11, at Swanson hospital, Taylor, were held Tuesday afternoon from the Christian church at San Gabriel, under direction of Phillips and Luckey.

The Rev. Byron Welch, pastor of First Christian church, Rockdale, officiated and burial was made in the Locklin cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson had been in the hospital for a week suffering from a heart condition.

Born Nora Lacy Baird, June 24, 1889 at San Gabrial, she was the daughter of Lucy Rigsby and Henry Francis Baird, on of the old families of this outstanding community. She had lived her span of life at San Gabriel after her marriage she and her husband founded their home within sight of the place where she was born.
(see JOHNSON, Page 8)

JOHNSON--(Continued from Page 1)
It was in this home that the couple reared their four daughters and three sons, and this mother is the first of the family to pass on.

Mrs. Johnson not only reared her own family but took into her home a number of children, giving them the same loving care and guidance as her own. She was active for many years in the church life and the affairs of the community. Like her father, who had given land for the erection of church and schools, she was strong in the support of education and religion, bringing her children up to be leaders for the better things of life. She was a member of the Christian church. The wealth of floral tributes at the service bespoke the affection, and esteem all held for her.

Besides the husband, Lon H. Johnson, the following daughters and sons survive: Mrs. W. T. Hill of Pledger, Texas; Mrs. A. C. Curlee and Mrs. Donald Ray Ferguson, of El Campo; Mrs. Rudolph Zarfas, of Austin; Woodrow Johnson, of Wharton, Lonzo and Robert Ray Johnson of Houston; also there were 14 grandchildren, on of whom died in infancy; three brothers, Will Baird of Beeville, Andrew Baird of Austin and Clarence Baird of San Gabriel.
