Shot through Left Arm
Partial Deafness Due to War

Henry Francis Baird was born in KY [possibly Garrard Co., KY]. Henry married, 26 Mar 1867 in Garrard Co., KY, Lucy Ann Rigsby.

Although Henry's headstone is engraved as H. T. Baird, his death certificate, other documents and some obits of his children indicate his name as Henry Francis Baird.

According to the 1900 Milam Co., TX census, Henry and Francis had 15 children, 12 living. I have located 14 of the 15 and they are now shown on Henry & Lucy's memorials by links.

SAN GABRIEL GOSSIP
Paragraph 7
June 26th

Another one of our aged citizen, Mr. Henry Baird, was claimed for a better home on last Saturday morning. We were not to say taken by great surprise to hear of his death, for he has been in very ill health for some time, but as we have said before, the end of any life comes with a blow, even tho it be expected. In the death of Mr. Baird, San Gabriel has laid away three of her dear old men within the past six weeks. To see our fathers and grandfathers called away, causes a pang of sorrow to our community, leaves a darkness that cannot be lighted, a place that cannot be filled. Your writer could not learn anything definite of his birth, place of abode nor age sufficient for mention so I'm confined to only my knowledge of Mr. Baird, the few years I've known him. He lived to a ripe old age and has been a citizen of this community for many years. From his influential talks to us he's been a hero. Our community loses a good man and friend, the wife a kind husband, the children a dear father. To verify our words of praise for him we need only to refer one to the large concourse of friends and relatives who assembled with sad hearts and tears to administer the sad rites of interment of the body in the Locklin cemetery near San Gabriel Sunday afternoon. By request of deceased Dr. Whitfield delivered the funeral talk, which was beautiful, afterwards he was taken charge of by the I.O.O.F. Lodge of the village, of which he was a principal member. We had out our sympathy to the bereaved ones.
