Utica , Nov. 3 - Allen Grant Jones, 74, retired, night marshal in Utica for 16 years, died Thursday at 6 p.m. in his home in North Central Avenue. In failing health for three years, his condition was serious but a few hours. Death was due to complications of diabetes. The son of Willis and Elizabeth (Devoll) Jones, he was born July 10, 1874 near Centerburg and spent his youth at Purity in Licking county. Associated with the late A.T. Stanton, hay dealer for 20 years, Mr. Jones was also employed at the Hushizer mill for a number of years. A charter member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Utica, which recently consolidated with the Newark lodge he had been a member of 46 years and was the oldest member in membership years. He also was a member of the Rebekah, Knights of Pythias and Pythias Sister lodges of Utica. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors are his widow, formerly Ida D. Warthen, whom he married Oct. 24, 1895, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Homer Fouts of Newark; four sons, Creed of Shelby, Kenneth of Columbus, Sheldon of Delaware and Leslie Jones of Canton. Also one sister, Mrs. J.L. Westbrook of Newark, a brother, Bert Jones of Croton, 10 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was moved to the C.C.Law and Son funeral home, where funeral services, conducted by Rev. W.M. Lockard will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Bell church cemetery, east of Utica.
