Another Pioneer Gone
John Meeker was born in Butler County, Ohio, September 6th, 1822, and died in Benton County, Oregon, March 6, 1883, and was therefore 60 years and six months of age at his death. From Ohio he moved to Montgomery, Indiana, where he remained but a short time when he moved to Mercer County, Illinois, where he married Miss Lydia Miller, who survives him. In 1848 he emigrated to Oregon and settled on a donaton claim near Miller's, Linn County where he lived until about three years ago when he moved into Benton County just across the river from Albany where he died as before stated. Mr. Meeker was a quiet, orderly and exemplary citizen and his loss will be mourned by many relatives and friends.
