Mrs. Celia Ann Stallings
The death of Mrs. Celia Ann (Meeker) Stallings occurred Monday at three-forty a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Brunner, of this place(Elm Creek, Nebraska). He death was caused by a complication of diseases. Her health broke about ten years ago and she was denied recovery. For the past year she had been practically helpless.
Mrs. Stallings was born in Illinois seventy-three years and seven months ago, and was married to Hosea H. Stallings in that state in 1870. To the union seven children were born, William, Mary, Albert LeRoy, Etta, Frank, Nellie, and Arthur, five of whom, Mrs. Brunner, Mrs. Sam Snedeker of Buda, Nebraska, Will H. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Frank of Wood River, Nebraska, and Arthur of Omaha, Nebraska were with her at the time of her death. Two other children, Mrs. Nellie Cochell of San Diego, California, and LeRoy of Chico, California, were unable to be present.
The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Brunner Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., and the body was conveyed by auto to the Kearney cemetery where services at the graveside were held at 4:30. The Rev. O. L. Bebb conducted the services.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mann and Mr. and Mrs. Claud Mann and children from the old home in Illinois were attendants at the services at the Brunner home.
Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Stallings were among the early pioneers of western Nebraska, having settled in Deuel county, at Chappell, in 1885. They went through the hardships common to the lot of those who entered that part of the state at that time. In 1895 they removed to Kearney, where they resided several years. Mr. Stallings died in 1908.--Wood River Sunbeam.
