Joseph Hau
Joseph M. Hau, 71, of N7802 Van Dyne Road, died Friday, July 3, 1998, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 5, 1927, in the Town of Greenbush, a son of August and Julia Steffes Hau. On Sept. 13, 1949, he married Joan Cosgrove at St. Patrick Church.

Mr. Hau was a member of Presentation Catholic Church, North Fond du Lac; Knights of Columbus No. 664; Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Mary Court No. 814; and Fox Valley Polka Club. He served as trustee at Presentation Church and was a past member of the church choir. He was president and board member of the We Love to Dance Club and also volunteered for the North Fond du Lac SHARE program.

Mr. Hau was employed by the Soo Line Railroad for 38 years; until his retirement in 1986. He was an American Family, Insurance Agent from 1963-80. From 1986 until the time of his death, he held the position of treasurer for the Town of Friendship and Town of Friendship Sanitary District No. .1.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; six daughters, Judine "Judy" Phillips of Fond du Lac, Maureen "Reenie" Euhardy and her husband Steve of Madison, Kathleen Barca and her husband Peter of Kenosha, Colleen Deanovich and her husband Howie and Doreen "Dorie" Stollfus and her husband Cory, all of Fond du Lac, and Marlene "Marcie" Gundlach and her husband Dave of Oshkosh; 13 grandchildren, Trisha and Robby Phillips, Michael and Dan Euhardy, Abbie and Peter Joseph Barca, Carrie and Joey Deanovich, Julia, Madeline and Bridget Stollfus and Adam and Matthew Gundlach; three brothers, Greg (Dolores) Hau of St. Cloud, Ervin (Laura) Hau of Mount Calvary and Roger (Ann) Hau of Sun Prairie; six sisters, Gertrude Wimberger of Eden, Rae Jones, Margaret (Eddie) Anders, Jo (Miles) Phalen and Wilma Smedberg, all of Fond du Lac, and Rose (Francis) Sippel of Mount Calvary; three sisters-in-law, Marge Hau of New Holstein, Marjorie Hau of Armstrong and Carol (Royal) Carey of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Albert and Richard Hau; four brothers-in-law, Claude Wimberger, Bruno Olig, Gordon Jones and Carl Smedberg; and one sister-in-law, Alice Cosgrove.

Services: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday from Zacherl Funeral Home and at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Presentation Church, North Fond du Lac. The Rev. John O'Brien will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: From 3 to 8 p,m. Monday at the funeral home.

A memorial in his name has been established.

Joe will always be remembered by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren for his love and smile. Family and friends appreciated his wonderful sense of humor and his enjoyment of playing cards, dancing and music. His small farm and pond brought him great pleasure.
