Joseph Aylesbury Stone was the son of William Stone and Luella Penney, the husband of Helen Moore and the father of Lou Ann Stone.

Joseph completed the commercial program at New Castle High School in 1913 and went to work for the P. & L.E. Railroad. He began as a clerk/assistant cashier in the freight office and retired in 37 years as the Yardmaster of the Aliquippa Yard. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in Beaver and belonged to the Lodge of the Craft No. 433 F. & A.M., the New Castle Valley Consistory , A.A.S.R. and Syria Shrine in Pittsburgh. .
