Services for Mrs. A. G. (Mary) Sanders were held Wednesday, Oct. 27, from the Wright and Ferguson Chapel with the Rev. Clay Lee and the Rev. John H. Morrow officiating. Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Sanders, of 735 Arlington St., died Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Dominic Hospital after an illness of several weeks.
She was born in Darlington, Rutherford, N. C. in 1889 and was the widow of A. G. Sanders Sr., professor of Romance Languages at Millsaps College, who preceeded [sic] her in death Feb. 17, 1974. She was the mother of Dr. John Ship Sanders of Jackson who died in 1965.
Mrs. Sanders was educated at Queens College, Charlotte, N. C., Smith College, North Hampton, Mass. and Columbia University in New York.
She was a resident of Jackson since 1919 and had taught English Literature for several years at Millsaps College and had taught at Martha Washington College in Virginia.
She was a member of the Fortnightly Club, the Book Review Club and was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Albert G. Sanders Jr. and Dr. Sam G. Sanders of Jackson; one daughter, Mrs. Paul M. Hopkins of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren, Robert W. Suddoth of Birmingham, Ala., Deborah Ann Sanders and Mary Ship Sanders, both of Jackson; and one great granddaughter, Misty Suddoth of Birmingham, Ala.
Pallbearers were Dr. Noel Womack, Doby Bartling, Jim McIntyre, Charles Carmickel, G. C. King, Frank Allen, Fred Garraway and William D. Mounger.
Memorial gifts were asked to be made to Millsaps College or to the Methodist Children’s Home.
