CLEMSON GETS MR. J. V. LEWIS

He is Elected to the Chair of Mineralogy and Geology at the South College College

Mr. J. V. Lewis, of Chapel Hill, who with his bride, who was Miss Maggie Hendon, spent part of the last Christmas holidays in Charlotte with his father, is winning success. He was elected by the board of trustees of Clemson College at their meeting in Columbia tuesday as the professor of mineralogy and geology at that institution. The State says:

"Mr. J. V. Lewis, who was elected to the chair of mineralogy and geology, is a native of North Carolina and graduated some years ago at the State University there. For a few years after graduation he was employed on the United States Geological Survey. He then spent a years at Johns Hopkins University and another year at Harvard under the distinguished geologist, Prof. N. S. Shaler.

"Since leaving Harvard Mr. Lewis has been engaged on the Geological Survey of North Carolina and also comes highly recommended by Professor Holmes, with whom he has been working. He is a member of the Baptist Church and is recently married, and a member of the Y. M. C. A."

Mr. Lewis is a young man, who by hard work and application has attained the most thorough mastery of his department of study and thought, and the Observer is pleased to see him stepping up.
