Darwin C. “DC” Arnold of the Marietta/Naples, Texas area was called home by the Lord on Sunday, September 8, 2019 in Daingerfield, Texas. He was of the age of 81. DC was born on the family general farm at Bates, MI May 26, 1938. Through the family, the farm grew from 80 to 270 acres. By this time, at the age of 18, DC enlisted in the US Army, in the Finance Corps. His time in the Finance Corps served to be invaluable throughout his lifetime, teaching him accounting, management and leadership. He served six+ enlisted years advancing from Pvt to Sgt at which time he decided to lead versus just assume the responsibilities. Sgt Arnold applied and was accepted into the Infantry OCS program, graduating in March 1963 as 2ndLt. Per his request, he was commissioned into the Armor (tanker) Branch. DC continued to serve through retirement in 1976 as a Major, not an insignificant accomplishment for one with a HS education and a few college hours. He served in Command, Operations and Combat Training. He served primarily in Europe during the Cold War and also two tours in Vietnam as an Infantry Officer. His numerous awards include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Meritorious Services Medal, Bronze Star w/ Oak Leaf and “V” Device and the Air Medal Awarded 11 times.

After military retirement, DC tried settling, without satisfaction. He continued his education to become a TX Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator, a field of people caring and great satisfaction. He worked in this profession for 20+ years, including owning his own retirement center, licensed assisted living center, along with his wife Julie, a Licensed Geriatric Nurse. He concluded his career due to health reasons. Along the way, from 1994 on, he leased land and raised some cattle, returning back to his farm days. Again, he concluded this in 2011 due to his health.

DC was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; two brothers/spouses and two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

He is survived by his loving wife Julie of 34 years. She was his soulmate, caretaker and spiritual counselor. Also 3 daughters: Lorena/James Shaw, Stephanie/Greg Eoff, Delene/Johnny Penix and 3 sons: Andre’/Karen, John/Barbie (OK), Loye B.III/Jennifer Adams all of TX, except John. In addition: 4 sisters: Gaylene, Hartha, Shirley (CO) and Pamela/Dave Valleau all of MI except Shirley. 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be at Harrison Funeral Home, Naples, TX, 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. Military graveside services/interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, Cooper, TX on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 by Reverend Edgar Clements and Reverend Jerry Clements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
