By 1910 Rilla and Andrew had moved to the Pacolet Township of Spartanburg County, SC. From there, by 1920 Rilla and the children were living in Draytonville, Cherokee County, SC.
Prior to January 1920, Rilla's husband had left the family and returned to his native North Carolina. She and Andrew never divorced.
In North Carolina, Andrew becane ill and was taken to the Jackson County Home located in Webster where he died in 1934 as the result of chronic Bright's Disease. He was interred the following day in an unmarked grave in the Jackson County Home Cemetery, Sylva, Jackson, North Carolina.
