The earliest burial is about 1875. The Love family buired some of their slaves on the lower part of the hill. The graves are in a wagon wheel design. Starting at the top and going around in circles to the bottom of hill. Most of the graves are unmarked.
The Jackson County Home was established officailly in 1924, but the home dates back further 1890's time frame. The wooden two-story structure, built about the turn of the 20th century, served as the county's first nursing home. The state owned the property, but it was the county who placed people there. Mostly people who didn't have anywhere else to go, or couldn't afford anything else. Federal Government programs paid for their upkeep and burial, due to lack of funds the county used inmates to dig graves and many were marked with a rock or piece of wood.
Information has been complied by Alvin Frady thru County records and living relatives. Alvin is working to get known graves marked with a metal plaque. The cemetery was rededicated in Oct 2005. Thanks to Alvin Frady and his hard work!
