Dallas was the son of Andrew Jackson "Dock" Mathis and Rilla Cockerham.

He married Sarah Pamela Fowler ca. 1925 in Cherokee County, South Carolina. Six children would be born to this union.

While growing up in poverty and barely able to read or write, Dallas attended Furman University, where despite the odds he would graduate and become a minister; an occupation he would hold for some 40-years.

While his marriage suffered, he felt compelled to move to California where he was instrumental in the founding of 4-churches. His wife and children would remain in South Carolina. They were never divorced.

Dallas would succumb to heart & diabetes related illnesses.

He was 70-years of age.
