John was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, on March 21, 1937, to Margaret and George Hake.

He was one of eleven children and is survived by his brother Fred Hake of New Port News, Virginia. On October 14, 1972, he married Carol Ann Johnson. They were married for 47 years. He has three children: James Dean, David Wayne, and John Ray along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John graduated from New Castle High School in June of 1956. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force and was assigned to several Air Force bases. He also served two years at Misawa Air Force Base in Japan. He was honorably discharged in September of 1960.
John joined the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., in January 1962 until he resigned in December 1965. He then went to Houston, Texas, to become a member of the Houston Police Department, class of #33. While serving, he also attended the University of Houston and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1972. He served over 25 years for the Houston Police Department and retired in 1992.

After retiring from the Houston Police Department, he became a member of the Harris County Precinct Five Constable’s Office. He also became a member of the Veteran Affairs Police Department in Houston until his retirement in 2003.

John had a great love of traveling and after retirement he and Carol traveled the states in their motor home for several years visiting family and friends. He enjoyed playing softball and traveling the United States playing in several tournaments with the police.

A memorial service for John will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 12 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that contributions be made to the Houston Policemen’s Burial Fund (241 E 27th, Houston, Texas 77008-2129).

John Ray Hake, a member of the HPROA, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the age of 82.

He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Hake.

He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on May 30, 1966, Academy Class #33. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Central, Criminal Intelligence, Vice, and Southwest Divisions. Police Officer Hake retired on March 6, 1992.

The body is entrusted with Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079 (281) 497-2210.

John lived to be 82 yeas, 2 months and 17 days old.
