Obituary-Mrs. J.C. Hartley

Lucinda Walling Hartley, eldest child of Thomas Walling and Laura Elliott, was born June 25, 1846, in Chautauqua Co., N.Y. But came to Pennsylvania with her parents in early childhood. Was united in marriage to the late Joseph C. Hartley, Jan. 1, 1861, at the Walling home in Greenfield Township.
Seven children were born to them, five of whom survive. Hartson W. and Joseph Charles, of Greenfield; Eustace E. and Mrs. Nellie Burch of Dewey, Okla., and Mrs. Jessie Perrine of North East township. Fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, also two brothers, T.A. Walling and Supreme Court Justice E.A. Walling; two sisters, Mrs. G.S. And Mrs. T.O. Wilkinson.
Thirty years of her life were spent at Milton, Halton Co., Ont., but eighteen years ago she with her husband bought and moved onto the old Walling homestead in Greenfield where she lived until less than four years ago, when she retired to her late home on Clay street, North East.
Mrs. Hartley was a member of the Presbyterian church, caring nothing for the frivolous things of this world, but ever ready to give motherly love and care to those in need, forgetting the weakness of advancing age and going far beyond her strength. She suffered a stroke in her home early Thursday morning, Feb. 8 and that day was moved to the home of her son, where everything was done that love could suggest to relieve her, but she gradually failed and passed peacefully away Thursday evening at 10:15, Feb. 13, surrounded by her children. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home of her son on Grahamville street, conducted by Rev. Carter, of the Presbyterian church. The bearers were her three sons and three grandsons, Wiil and George Bemiss and Harry Hartley. Her body was laid to rest in the Grahamville cemetery, beside husband and son, very near the last resting place of parents, grandparents and many other relatives.

Foster children were Hattie Hatfield & Willie Rose
