Cornelius' parents Orrin and Eliza Jane Cavett Burright.

His grandparents Cornelius and Olive Messenger Burright (Barhydt).

He married first to Jane Cobb then secondly to Alice Davis.

After their deaths Cornelius then married Sarah Margaret Wilmoth Feb 14 1885 Keota, Custer, NE. Their children Chamelia, Lela Vera, Edith Leona, Johnny, Ernest Lester, Christopher Charles, Bryan William, George Dewey, Mary Ella, Glenn Orrin, Floyd Manley, Frances Bernice, LeeRoy "Roy".

OBITUARY: "C.W. Burright, 68 years old, was injured Friday at Independence(Government Works in the River below the City) when he was struck by a grubbing machine. He died within the hour. He leaves a wife and 13 children. He had lived in Independence, Polk, OR, five years. Previously came from Sodaville, Linn, OR where they resided since 1890. They came out to Oregon from their homestead in Victoria Springs, Custer County, Neb in 1890 by steam engine train to Albany, Linn, OR.

Funeral Services were held under the auspices of the G.A.R. and W.R.C., conducted by Dr. Dunsmore, of Calvary Presbyterian Church."

Union Civil War veteran. Served 14th Iowa Company G, Infantry. Rank Principal Musician. Promoted to Full Principal Musician on 01 September 1862. Mustered out at Davenport, IA on 16 November 1864.

The 14th Iowa fought in the western theater under the command of Generals Grant and Rosecrans. They took part in the capture of Fort Donelson and fought in the battles of Shiloh and Corinth among others. The regiment lost during service 5 Officers and 59 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 1 Officer and 138 Enlisted men by disease. Total 203.

(Geneal Rosencrance is a distant relative of Cornelius' wife, Sarah... her grandmother, Mahala Snider, on her fathers side of family is a Rosenkrans.

Gravesite Details

his stone was broken/glued hard to read. I went to funeral home they helped me to get a replacement for this CW Vet who is my ggrandfather. The Army brought it to the fh set it down on the ground saluted it and left. I had the dates entered on it.
