Etta's mother, Jane Louis Cobb Burright died in childbirth after her fourth child.

According to the Toledo, Tama County, Iowa 1870 census Aunt Margaret Burright Vertrees come into her brother's, Cornelius W. Burright, home to care for the three boys. Etta, is the only one of the four children known to be adopted out. If the boys were adopted out it is unknown as to whom they were adopted out to.

From Tama County Courthouse Deed Book 31, page 134, records of Tama Co, IA, dated 29 Jan 1870, shows Ettie Rosell, daughter of C.W. and Jane L. (deceased) Burright, age one year, adopted by George T. and Susan Buckmaster with name to be Etta Burright Buckmaster. The Tama County 1880 census shows Etta with the family of George and Susan Buckmaster.

Etta married Herman Harmon Ritter/Retter 1896 in Haddam, Washington, Kansas.

Their known children are:
Bernice May "Etta" born 18 Feb 1897 in Nebraska;
Francis Herman Ritter, Jr born 26 Aug 1899 in Strong City, Washington County, Kansas; and
Enid Beatrice Ritter born 3 March 1905 in Provo Ward 3, Utah, Utah, USA.
