Richard John Hartsell Jr., age 54, of Phillipsburg, N.J., passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019 at St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1964 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He resided in Phillipsburg, N.J., for the past 25 years, moving from Frenchtown, N.J.
He was the son of the late Richard John Hartsell Sr. and Dorothy Gratt Hartsell.
Richard worked as a painting contractor in Hunterdon County for most of his career.
He enjoyed skiing and in his younger years he enjoyed riding dirt bikes. He also loved John Deere tractors and he had a true passion for cars, especially German cars.
Survivors include his best friend and business partner, Richard 'Buddy' Waterman Jr., of Phillipsburg, N.J.; one brother, Earl Hartsell of Jim Thorpe, Pa.; two sisters, Kathleen Bowlby and her fiancé Jeff Warren of Allentown, Pa., and Elizabeth Tillou and her husband, Butch, of Jim Thorpe, Pa. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Linda S. Hudecek, who passed away in 2018.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, N.J. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish Center, 142 Perryville Road, Hampton, NJ. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.
