Our community was shocked early Sunday morning to hear that the spirit of Mrs. John Butcher Jr., had taken its flight, as she had only been sick since Tuesday, and it was not though her illness would terminate fatally. Lettie Anna Mills, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Van Buren Mills, was born July 27, 1865 and passed away May 31st, at the age of 42 years, 10 months and 4 days. At the age of 20 she was united in marriage to Mr. Charles F. Bell. To this union six children were born, Nellie and Carrie of Davenport; Alford of Cranston; Vita, Earl and Elma of Cone. In 1902 she was again united in marriage to John Butcher and to them were born four children, Harvie, who died in infancy; Harry, Ward, and baby Lurilla, all of whom were present at the bed side of their darling mother, except Alford and Elma, when she crossed the silent river of death, never more to return to those children who mourn her so deeply. She is also survived by her dear parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Mills, of Adams; and four sisters, Mrs. George Conklin, of West Liberty, Mrs. Hattie Pike, of Nichols; Mrs. Minnie White, of Washington; Mrs. Ella Adams, of Adams, and four brothers, John, Amos and Wm. Mills, of Pike township, and George of Bayfield, all of whom came to attend the funeral and burial of their dead sister, the funeral being preached by Rev. Boice, of Cranston, in the Grace Reformed church Monday afternoon at 2 o clock. The floral offering were beautiful and the choir sang some touching and beautify songs.
In behalf of the parents, children and brothers and sisters, I extend thanks to all who extended sympathy and kindness in this great hour of grief and bereavement.∼1st husband was Charles F Bell b. 1866
