Elizabeth Francis (Lannom) Kelley passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel S. James following an illness of two months. At the time of her death she was 77 yrs. 11 mos. and 23 days of age. She was called "grandma chew-tobacco" by members of her family. She carried around a little knife to occasionally slice off a piece of tobacco.
She was the daughter of Presley and Mary (Alsip) Lannom and was educated in the common schools of Tennessee. Both of her parents were born in TN according to her death certificate. She moved with her parents to Johnson Co. IL and in 1869 united in marriage to Isaac N. Kelley. To this union 8 children were born, 5 survive: Mrs. Arvilla Parrish of Goreville, Mrs. Francis James of Marion, William "Press" Kelley of Goreville, Mrs. America Lee Simmons and Mrs. Minnie Cash, both of Marion. Three children died several years ago: Calvin W., Joel B., and Sandy H.
The husband of the deceased passed away 17 yrs. ago and for the past 7 yrs. she has been residing with her daughter Mrs. James on West Prairie St. in Marion. She is also survived by two brothers: William J. "Buck" Lannom of Johnson City and T. W. "Tobe" Lannom of Marion and one sister, Mrs. Cal Kelley of Goreville.
The deceased had been ill two months with cancer of the liver prior to her death. The funeral services will be conducted by T. J. Rushing.
