William "Press" Kelley, 77 died at his home at 8:15 am Sunday after an illness of one month. A retired farmer and hotel operator, Kelley had been widely known in Democratic Party circles through a long active career. He had served as county commissioner of Johnson Co., as road commissioner and constable, and was at one time senatorial committeeman of his district.
The deceased was also a member of the Goreville High School Board and has taken a very active part in all Goreville civic affairs.
William Pressley was born to Isaac and Elizabeth (Lannom) Kelley, both of whom preceded him in death. He was married Nov. 25, 1891 in Goreville to Mexico Ollis, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Orpha) Corzine, Goreville, two sons, Alvah and Sam C. Kelley, Goreville, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A son, Noel, died in 1930.
Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Mary James, Chicago; Mrs. Arvilla Parrish, Goreville; Mrs. Sam Simmons, Marion, and Mrs. Sam Cash, Marion. Three brothers preceded him in death: Calvin W., Joel B., and Sandy H.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Goreville Baptist Church with the Rev. Clyde Simmons officiating.
