SPRINGFIELD — Opal Marie Rutter, 70, of Springfield, formerly of Albany, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at OSU Hospital in Columbus. Born Feb. 25, 1942, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Myrtle Gilkey.

She is survived by her daughters, Esther (Donzel) Matheny of Springfield, Daphne (Mark) Lowery of Glouster, Mary (John) Oakley of Buchtel and Bobbie Bailey (Carl Davis) of Springfield; a son, David (Mary) Bailey of Albany; sisters and brothers, Shelly (Lester) Davidson of Fort Meyers, Fla., Vera (Ivan) Stanley of Nelsonville, Chuck Gilkey of Chauncey, Earl (Fonda) Gilkey of Glouster and Joanne Willison of Columbus; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos “Sheb” Rutter; brothers, Donnie Gilkey, Roger Gilkey, John Gilkey and Tommy Gilkey; sisters, Rosie Harriman and Sharon Hanging; and a grandson, Thomas Lowery.

At the request of Opal, the body will be cremated. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of her life wlll be held in Buchtel on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m
