---John Wesley Paris, father of the late Clifford Paris, and a longtime resident of Arkansas City, died Saturday at 5 p.m., after a 10-day illness, at his home in Iola. He formerly lived at 1310 North C St., and moved to Iola about three years ago.
---During World War II, Paris worked as a guard at the Kanotex Refining Co. He was one of the Paris brothers, and a cousin of Ol Paris for whom Paris Park was named, who built many of the curbs and sidewalks in Arkansas City.
---He was born Feb. 6, 1881, at Clarence, Mo., the son of Green Paris and Mary Boone Paris. His wife, Mamie Francis Murphy, whom he married in La Plata, Mo., died Feb. 19, 1938.
---Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Zelda) Smith and Mrs. L. R. (Evelyn) Cyrus, both of Iola; seven grandchildren; two brothers, William Paris and Baylis Paris, both of Tulsa, one sister, Mrs. Bertha Heflin, Winfield; and a half-brother, Joe Henry, also of Tulsa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sons, Clifford Paris of Arkansas City, and John Paris Jr., of Tulsa.
---Funeral services will be conducted in Iola Tuesday morning. Graveside services will be held in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, with burial besides his wife, Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
---The Sleeper Mortuary of Iola and Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
