Willie was one of the three children of Jeanette (Nettie) Biehl Baker (1861-about 1940) and her husband William Baker (1855-before 1910). Her older sister Mina Belle was born in Marshall, Texas in 1881 and her younger brother Harry Winters Baker was born in Dallas in 1889. Willie's birth record has not been found but her death record indicates she was born in Texas. Her sister's death record indicates that the family moved to Port Arthur about 1896. They appear in the 1900 census there. Head of household is Nettie Baker, indicated as married although William is not residing with his family in this census. By 1910, Nettie indicates she is widowed (and the 1900 census enumerator may have made an error about Nettie's marital status).
In 1900, the family are: Nettie Baker, 38 (39 is crossed out) b. KY, Mina 19 b. TX, W (for Willie) 16 b. TX, and Harry 10 b. TX. They live in Precinct 2 of the city of Port Arthur. In 1910, they lived in Ward 1, Port Arthur: Nettie 48, Willie 25, and Harry 20. Older sister Mina had married in 1900, after the time of the census, to George Nelson Bliss.

On 30 April 1916 in Port Arthur, Willie married Hugo L. Alexander (who had been born in KY). They had a stillborn son on 12 Oct, 1918 and he was buried in City Cemetery the following day. His mother did not long outlive him. She last appears in the 19 Jan. 1920 census with her husband just a few days before her death by pneumonia in the hospital on Proctor Street on 4 Feb. 1920. Although it names her as Mrs. Willie Crowder Alexander, the death certificate calls her single. The certficate correctly names her parents and the informant was her brother Harry.
