Curtiss Ethel Peet, son of Ethel Curtiss and Harriet Holmes Peet, was born in Waverly, Illinois, on July 8, 1856, and died in a St. Louis hospital on December 25, 1939 following a few days illness of pneumonia, at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 17 days.
Mr. Peet was married April 7, 1878, to Miss Clara Hutchison and spent some years on a farm. He left the farm in 1897 and became a gateman for the Chicago & Alton Railroad company on one of its St. Louis-Chicago trains for about a year, and during that time resided in Springfield. He then moved to St. Louis where he has resided for more than forty years. For a number of years he was employed as a street car conductor in St. Louis, and then for fifteen years he was keeper of Forest Park, retiring from active life in 1932.
During his residence in Waverly, Mr. Peet was a member of the Baptist church, but after moving to St. Louis, joined the Methodist church.
Mr. Peet is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Delia Smith and Mrs. Harriett Smith, both of St. Louis; two granddaughters, Mrs. Lucille Rohrbough, of Aurora, Mo.; and Mrs. Grace Crabill, of St. Louis; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Allen, of Waverly; and three nieces Mrs. Albert Burns and Misses Ethel and Lura Allen of Waverly.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
