Mr. Cole was a retired deputy sheriff with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Dept. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Swartz, the Louisiana Peace Officers Association and the Walter George Masonic Lodge. He served as a sergeant with the 71st Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter Group in the Army Air Corps during WWII in England, Africa, Egypt, Sicily, Sardinia and Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and the Oak Leaf Cluster at the Mediterranean Theater.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Eugene Cole and Maggie Freeland Cole of Swartz; and three sisters, Irene Cole Barron, LaGwen Blauvelt and Ertelee Linsay.

He was survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances Speir Cole of Swartz; two sons, Kenneth R. Cole and wife Marta of Dallas, TX, and Ronald E. Cole and wife Mary of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Kathy Thompson and husband Larry of Swartz, and Kay Buchart of Monroe; one sister, Eloise Edgar and husband Roy of Monroe; brothers-in-law, David Speir and wife Sarah of Swartz, George Speir and wife Joan of Houston, TX, and Jerry Speir and wife Barbara of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Virginia Renwick of Monroe, Marie Glenn of Swartz, Patsy Causey and husband Marion of Baton Rouge; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
