He was born June 18, 1946 in Alleghany County to the late Marcus Gilmer Smith, Sr. and Ona Ferguson.
He was also preceded by his wife Lynn Ellen Smith; son, Brian N. Smith; four brothers and one sister.
He was employed as a driver by the Coca-Cola Company with over 43 years of service, was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge 171 AF & AM, the Clifton Forge Shrine Club and the Kazim Shriners and the Carpenter's Battery Chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
He is survived by his son, Michael L. Smith; three grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Grayce Smith and Michayla Smith; two brothers, Robert L. (Helen) Smith and Chris (Custer) Smith; sister, Jean (Ronnie) Porterfield; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith and Susan K. Smith.
