He was also preceded by brothers, James Leroy Smith, Roger Dean Smith.
He graduated from Covington High School, served in the United States Air Force for four years. retired from Westvaco after 36 years of service, was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Chancel Choir.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jordan Smith; two sons, Marc Smith and Randy Smith; adopted son, Willard Meeks; two grandchildren, Sara Smith and Austin Smith; three brothers, Robert Dawson (Helen) Smith; Stephen Louis Smith and Christopher Layne (Custer) Smith and sister, Norma Jean (Ron) Porterfield.
