Rites Set for Alice Ashby, 81, Here Friday


Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Maeser Ward Chapel for Georgia Alice McCain Ashby, 81, who died Tuesday at 2:30 a.m. in the Uintah County Hospital following a long illness.

She was born June 18, 1883 in Ironaton, Alabama, a daughter of Columbus V. and Julia Watts McCain. She married William Ashby Jr., November 3, 1909 in Marlow, Oklahoma. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mr. Ashby died August 13, 1944 in Vernal.

She joined the LDS Church at the age of 16 in Oklahoma and has been an active member since. She filled a stake mission and was an ardent temple worker.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter, Eldon Ashby and Glen Ashby, Powell, Wyoming; Dale Ashby, Yuba City, California and Mrs. Alton (Edna) Vernon, Vernal; 21 grandchildren, a brother, C. V. (Bud) McCain and a sister, Mrs. Eugenia Biddlecome, both of Santa Clara, California; and three half-sisters.

The 7th Ward bishopric will officiate at the services. Friends may call at the Vernal Mortuary Thursday (today) from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday prior to services. Burial will be in the Maeser Cemetery.
