He was a master mechanic and worked in the Vernal area for a number of years before taking a job at an aircraft factory in San Diego, California, and subsequently enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He was discharged from the Army in October of 1945. He subsequently worked in a number of garages throughout the Rocky Mountain area.
In 1949, he homesteaded a farm near Powell, Wyoming and built it into a sizeable operation. He retired to Denver, Colorado, where he owned and operated an apartment building, then he later moved to Montrose, Colorado where he lived until a few months prior to his death in Grand Junction, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, and four sons, Charles William, Robert, Gary and Roger, and a daughter, Patti Jean. Also a brother; Dale Ashby in Keno, Oregon.
